United is a great company to work for especially if you have an interest in aviation. Not very technical work, but an engineering mindset allows you to excel.

Wish they gave a relocation stipend prior to moving. Instead it comes with the first paycheck.

Airport Operations and Field Ops Intern

May - August 2018 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

Working in an airport is always interesting and high-energy; the airline industry is fast-pace and never runs out of problems that need solving. I was rarely bored working this job. The flying benefit also allows you and one friend to fly anywhere for free or extremely discounted domestically and internationally. There is lots of room for growth and exploration.

What I wish was different

I worked the same position two years in a row. The first year I didn't feel like I was doing projects described by the job description. I spoke up and the second year I was working on projects that were directly applicable to my major/interests and I learned a lot.

Advice

Take advantage of every opportunity, both with the job and flying benefit. United Airlines is a major company, so it has endless connections to make. Talk to everyone you meet and never be afraid to put yourself out there. Also take advantage of the flying benefit! You don't get the opportunity for free flights often.
