
Architecture & Engineering Plan Review Specialist
The Architectural & Engineering Specialist II is responsible for managing the process of the creation and distribution of A/E construction documents through all phases of development of individual capital construction projects in support of the annual capital construction program of a CBES’ major retail client company. This includes responsibility for hiring the outside Architectural and Engineering teams and coordinating, tracking, and reporting on the status of their work to assure that all deliverables are produced and distributed on a schedule and in a manner that properly supports the capital plan. The A&E Specialist II will also support the work of others on the A&E Specialist team as needed to assure that all work is progressing on the required schedule.
The A&E Specialist II is responsible for ensuring that construction documents are accurate and complete before being issued for bid. This includes managing the pre-planning and due diligence process for remodel, takeover or expansion projects. This position has an integral role in the control of quality, cost and schedule of our client’s store development program.
Specific responsibilities of this position include:
- Establish the schedule for and monitor the A&E drawing process including 100% redline documents, redline meeting, and follow-up bid set review for New, Remodel, Expansion and Acquisition stores and Special Projects
- Maintain an accurate project status tracking document for all active projects through all phases of the store development cycle
- Maintain the client’s A&E criteria documents to incorporate new design criteria as identified by the client’s construction and engineering teams or that address recurring errors and omissions that result in construction issues or change orders
- Solicit proposals from and award design contracts to outside architectural and MEP consultants.
- Schedule, monitor, and control the A&E due diligence and construction document process to ensure consistency, accuracy and timeliness of all deliverables of the A&E consultants
- Develop scope, schedule and coordinate performance of due diligence surveys conducted by the outside A&E project team for all remodel, takeover, and expansion projects
- Ensure that the due diligence reports are complete and distributed to all relevant parties
- Schedule and coordinate on-site walkthroughs of all remodel projects with representatives from the client’s Store Development, Sales, and Operations teams
- Create a written record and a marked-up fixture plan to capture all pre-walkthrough meeting notes and to document the intended project scope
- Communicate updates and required plan changes to Store Planning for inclusion on the fixture plan
- Notify all relevant parties of items requested or discussed, but not included in the final project scope
- Review all requested fixture plan changes in relation to the status of the A&E process or construction schedule. Confirm proper approval before releasing any changes to the outside A&E team or in-house engineering team
- Attend and participate in pre-opening walkthroughs as scheduled by the Project Manager
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field
- 3 - 10 years experience in new store development, supermarket/grocery preferred.
- Architectural designs/engineering concepts and processes
- Construction methods and materials;
- Must be able to read and interpret plans, specifications and building codes.
- Should be able to read and interpret contracts, schedules and timelines.
- Excel proficiency
Travel 10%-20% within geographic area of client stores.
