Technical Sales Representative


Global Essence, a supplier of Essential Oils, Citrus Products, Botanicals, Organics, and Natural & Synthetic Aroma Chemicals, is currently interviewing for an entry-level Technical Sales Representative role in the central New Jersey area.  This role involves not only the selling of a vast range of ingredients but understanding and explaining various technical aspects of these materials to current and potential clients in the Flavor, Fragrance, Food & Beverage, Consumer Products and Aromatherapy industries. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding Full Range of Products:

Learn and understand the products offered by Global Essence, including their applications, specifications, features, regulatory standing, and benefits. 

  • Identifying and Qualifying Leads:

Responsible for finding potential customers across all categories serviced by Global Essence. Following up continuously until lead becomes a customer or is deemed unqualified.

  • Relationship Building:

Developing a rapport with potential and existing clients to build trust and foster long-term relationships. 

  • Presenting and Demonstrating Products:

Explaining the applications, benefits, and value of our various product lines through in person presentations, video calls, trade shows and conferences. 

  • Handling Inquiries and Providing Technical Support:

Answering customer questions regarding common technical concerns, product usage, pricing, availability, and regulatory requirements. 

  • Collaborating with Other Teams:

Working well with all departments inside Global Essence, specifically Customer Service, Marketing, Quality Control, Regulatory and R & D.

  • Tracking Sales Performance:

Self-monitoring KPI as well as participating in meetings with peers and managers to discuss performance on a periodic basis.

  • Preparing Proposals and Presentations

Working in conjunction with Marketing, R & D and Sales Administration to prepare specific presentations depending on customer and products being offered.

  • Industry Trends 

Learning and discussing new products, trends, and ideas with internal teams as well as suppliers/producers. 

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Knowledge:

Ability to learn all aspects of offered materials as a good understanding of the products or services being sold is essential. A background and/or interest in science is a necessity.  Ability to converse with food scientists and flavorists who have inherent technical knowledge of many ingredients will be needed.

  • Communication Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed to effectively explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. 

  • Sales Acumen:

Learning and understanding of sales processes, techniques, and strategies and applying them daily. The ability for interpersonal communication, 

whether one on one or in a group setting, is the most important skill in this position.  

  • Customer Service Skills:

The ability to build rapport, address concerns, and provide excellent customer service. Exuding charisma and a likable personality are key factors.

  • Problem-Solving Skills:

The ability to understand customer needs and find solutions using the company's products, services, and resources. 

  • Adaptability:

The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing market conditions and customer needs. 

  • Self-Motivation:

The ability to work independently and take initiative. Understanding that hard work and results are expected and will be rewarded.

  • Organized and Detail-Oriented:

The ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate files. Learning and utilizing the many tools of our ERP system to streamline and optimize information storage and gathering, allowing for more efficient time usage and increased lead and customer interaction.

  • Team Player:

Understanding the company operates as a team and communication, personal responsibility, working with and for others and acting in the best interest of the company 

will result in positive results in general and expedited personal growth.  Having the personality and work ethic to grow within the company through performance and a strong desire for both company and individual success.
