SPS Mechanical Designer Job Description
Location: Cypress, Tx | Schedule: Full-time, on-site with limited remote flexibility
Reports to: Operations Manager
Background
SPS designs and builds high-efficiency filtration and separation vessels for oil-and-gas clients. Each unit merges ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code compliance with proprietary internals tailored to the customer’s process.
Engineering Mission
Our engineering group not only generates full fabrication drawing packages but also contributes to the design standards, guidelines, and digital tools that keep every project fast, accurate, and repeatable.
Current Opening – Mechanical Designer
We need a hands-on designer who can juggle multiple projects in a lean environment and step into any task—from ASME code checks to 3-D modeling a designer who can manage designs cradle to grave.
Must-Have
Code & specification fluency
• Familiarity with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code or ASME piping codes; prior pressure-vessel work preferred.
• Ability to review customer specifications and summarize project-specific requirements.
• Ability to understand and interpret ASME code calculations.
Drafting & modelling excellence
• Comprehensive 2-D drawing practice in accordance with ASME Y14.5 accuracy and GD&T discipline.
• 3–5 years of 3-D modelling (SolidWorks preferred) covering vessels, skids, and pipe/tube routings.
• Preparation of GA, fabrication, P&ID and structural drawings that meet SPS design standards.
Execution & quality control
• Coordinate engineering deliverables with Procurement, Production, and QA departments.
Check the technical accuracy of all engineering documents before release.
• Iterate with stakeholders until design & fabrication details are accepted.
• Maintain an organized CAD library to protect revision integrity.
Professional attributes
• Solid grasp of common engineering equations and units of measure.
• Self-motivated; willing to work independently or as a team.
• Strong organizational skills for strict deadlines.
• Clear English communication verbal and written.
Nice-to-Have
Maintain project ERP data: part creation, BOM validation, milestone scheduling.
Prepare detailed project plans that drive on-time approval and fabrication packets.
Pipe/tubing routing experience specific to oil-and-gas equipment.
Experience reviewing and marking-up fabricator drawings for manufacturability.
Familiarity with contract drafting/engineering workflows during workload spikes.
Growth Areas
Manage subcontracted engineering resources and contract drafting staff.
Interest in training for CFD, FEA, and R&D.
Confer directly with management, providing workload forecasts and status reports.
Develop or refine internal design guidelines, standards, and automation tools for future projects.
