Dean of Instruction

Purpose

Responsibility for supervising academic departments.  The Dean of Instruction maintains accurate records of faculty evaluations and provides oversight of the college curriculum. General responsibilities include assisting with the development of policies and procedures relating to academic affairs.
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters Degree required
  • Experience in post-secondary education required
  • Experience with online education
  • Experience in curriculum maintenance and development
  • Supervisory skills 
  • Human Relations/Public Relations skills
  • Program Improvement/Effectiveness 
  • Positive leadership skills
  • Employment is dependent upon a pre-employment background screening

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • May require some travel
  • Indoors, environmentally controlled
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time
  • Occasional stress due to deadlines and/or dealing with unpleasant or angry people

Job Duties

      Essential Functions

  • Regular attendance and timeliness
  • Supervise the following college staff:  Division Chairs, Instructional Program Directors, Faculty, Teacher Aids, Substitute Instructors, Adjunct/Short Term Instructors, and Instructional Coordinator which includes curriculum development and general instructional assistance
  • Oversees high school concurrent curriculum and instruction
  • Works with Division Chairs, department chairs and faculty in departmental planning and curriculum development
  • Works with the administrative team on the development and implementation of Carl Perks grant activities
  • Monitors and reports on KBOR Performance Agreements
  • Works directly with the maintenance and improvement of the instructional faculty
  • Responsible for the preparation of college catalog, faculty handbook, schedules, and program reviews
  • Establish and maintain an active working relationship with Kansas Board of Regents
  • Establish and maintain the College’s faculty development program 
  • Assists the Vice President of Student and Instructional Services with the Higher Learning Commission accreditation for the College
  • Assists Directors and Division Chairs with programmatic accreditation
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the college’s assessment processes
  • Oversight of Program Inventory and Course Inventory (KBOR site)
  • Supervision of online course development and course offering 
  • Assists Vice President of Finance & Operations in the preparation and management of the College budget
  • Plans and reports immediate and long-range equipment needs for all departments
  • Screens all department purchase requests
  • Develops and implements faculty orientation
  • Conducts regularly scheduled faculty meetings
  • Assists the Division Chairs in coordinating department advisory committee meetings
  • Maintains confidentiality and accurate records
  • Review relevant areas of the website and recommend changes to your supervisor

      Other Responsibilities

  • Assign work to staff or employees
  • Evaluate performance of faculty per board policy
  • Motivate workers to achieve work goals

Other duties as assigned by the VP of Student & Instructional Services or the President

Compensation

  • 12 Month Position
  • Compensation based on experience
