Instructional Paraprofessional
Assist teacher in everyday routines as directed
- Function under the teacher’s supervision.
- Complete daily record-keeping either verbally or in writing, as directed.
- Facilitate appropriate behavior management according to the student’s Individualized Behavior Management Plan or Behavior Support Plan and The Phoenix Center’s Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures.
- Assume bus, lunch, bathroom, and playground duty responsibility.
- Help set-up classroom and get ready for the day: set up schedules and discuss any needed changes.
- Collect behavioral and academic data as needed and directed by the teacher.
- Work cooperatively with head paraprofessional in the classroom.
- Attend all related service sessions (OT/PT/SP). For counseling sessions, bring child and sit outside counseling room.
Engaging students in learning
- Follow through with teacher’s lesson plans based on pupil’s IEP.
- Develop and maintain effective interactions with all students.
- Encourage students to work independently.
- Provide assistance, when appropriate, to ensure that students stay on task.
- Run small student group activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Provide clear and concise directions to students.
- Use Standard American English in a clear and pleasant voice for instructional purposes.
- Effectively utilize the prompt hierarchy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1. High School diploma required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 2. Experience working with special needs students a plus
- 2. Effective written and oral communication skill.
- 3. Ability to work effectively as a team member in a collaborative environment
