Engineering Manager

Winkle Industries is the premier provider of material handling solutions. From scrap recycling to railway and everything in between.

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Mechanical Lifting Devices team on-site at the Alliance, Ohio location. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both DFM and Mechanical Lifting Devices, as well as experience with software such as SolidWorks and Industrial Engineering principles. You will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and for ensuring that all products are designed with manufacturing and lifting considerations in mind. In addition, you will work closely with the Sales team to provide technical support and guidance for customer inquiries.

Our ideal candidate will

•        Lead and manage a team of engineers in the development of mill duty mechanical lifting devices, with a focus on Design for Manufacturing

•        Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.

•        Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

•        Reviews work and projects for technical accuracy.

•        Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, supply chain, and quality, to ensure designs are optimized for production and assembly.

•        Use SolidWorks or similar software to create and review 3D models, assemblies, and drawings.

•        Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments and finite element analysis (FEA) to identify potential design and manufacturing challenges.

•        Develop and implement processes and procedures to improve design and manufacturing efficiency and quality.

•        Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including BTH-1 and ASME B30.2, related to lifting devices.

•        Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations.

•        Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including Sales, to provide technical support and guidance for customer inquiries.

•        Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

•        Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

•        Knowledge of Industrial Engineering principles and manufacturing processes

•        Excellent leadership and project management skills

•        Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

•        Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to lifting devices.

•        Experience in providing technical support to Sales teams, and ability to communicate technical information to customers.

•        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

•        Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.

•        Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

•        Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

•        Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or similar software.

Education and Experience:

•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

•    10+ years of experience in engineering design and product development, with a focus on DFM and Mechanical Lifting Devices


Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
