Technical Documentation Specialist

About The Role:

As a Technical Documentation Specialist you will develop critical documentation to support the manufacturing, installation, and servicing of WAC Group’s global commercial lighting portfolio. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams including R&D Product Development, Marketing, and more, to ensure data hygiene throughout product lifecycles. Success is measured on accurate and timely deliverables that align with product development timelines and launch schedules.

What You Will Do:

 

Create Critical Documentation:

  • Create assembly instructions, installation guides, instructions sheets, specification sheets, maintenance manuals, servicing documents, compliance documentation, CAD files, photometric files, and more.

Uphold Standards & Style:

  • Ensure consistent terminology, format, and branding across all technical documentation.
  • Implement document control procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 or similar standards.

Participate In Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to gather accurate process and product information.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to produce detailed parts lists, exploded views, and technical drawings.
  • Actively participate in product design reviews, inspections, and testing to validate documentation content.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Services, R&D and Supply Chain Management teams to develop materials and essential documentation for repairs, replacements, and troubleshooting for existing and sustaining product families.

 Leverage Technology:

  • Effectively utilize authoring tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, SolidWorks Composer, or equivalents.
  • Manage documentation using PLM systems and ERP-integrated document control tools.

 Ensure Quality & Compliance Standards:

  • Ensure all documentation meets required safety, compliance, and labeling standards.
  • Support regulatory filings by preparing complete technical documentation packages.
  • Maintain version control and ensure up-to-date publishing of all documents.

 Produce Visual & Media Content:

  • Enhance documents using CAD renderings, schematics, photos, and safety graphics.
  • Produce high-quality illustrations and visuals.

 What You Will Bring to the Table:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a closely related field of study.
  • 1–5 years of experience creating technical documentation for physical products and/or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and process documentation.
  • Familiarity with CAD image extraction.
  • Proven collaboration skills in cross-functional, fast-paced environments. 

 

What Will Make You Stand Out:

 

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma documentation practices.
  • Experience with manufacturing environments and shop floor procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance standards including UL, CE, RoHS, and REACH. 
  • Ability to produce multilingual documentation for global markets.

 

The expected salary is $70,000 - $90,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors allowed by law.
