General Job Description: This is skilled mechanical work at the intermediate level in the maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment in a large City facility or several facilities.  An employee in this class performs routine maintenance and repair of machinery and related equipment including, but not limited to generators, motors, pumps, compressors, fans and valves.  Work also includes performing other basic trades tasks as assigned such as routine plumbing and electrical work.  Employees in the class gain experience and learn progressively more difficult and complex mechanical maintenance and repair work necessary for advancement to the full performance Machinery and Equipment Mechanic 2 class.  Work involves some disagreeable aspects and physical effort.  Work is performed under the supervision of a technical supervisor.

 

The Requirements are as follows:

EDUCATION:

  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.

AND

EXPERIENCE:

          Two years of experience learning to maintain and repair machinery and mechanical equipment in a large industrial facility as a helper.

NOTE: Completion of a post high school mechanical trade program at an accredited vocational technical institute, trades school or college in a related field including possession of a diploma indicating completion of all program curriculum meets all requirements.
