Health Nurse - Starts 2025-26 School Year - Student Services

 THIS JOB LISTING WILL BE USED TO CREATE A POOL OF QUALIFIED CANDIDATES TO FILL VACANCIES (PERMANENT, TEMPORARY, FULL-TIME, PART-TIME AND LESS THAN HALF-TIME) FOR THE 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR

Primary Function

To provide health-related services to students with health needs; to create a safe and healthy environment for students in the school setting.

Supervised By

Director of Student Services (or assigned designee)

Essential Functions

  1. Works as a team member by collaborating with Health Services Team on prioritization, caseload management of students with health needs, health-related trainings for school personnel, and health screenings.
  2. Facilitates communication between the medical community and the school setting regarding students with health needs.
  3. Provides health-related information as an educational team member.
  4. Performs evidence-based nursing care, including: assessments, development/implementation of health plans, provision of direct and indirect student care, making referrals for ill and injured students, and conducting health screenings.
  5. Collaborates with other agencies to respond to outbreaks of communicable disease.
  6. Provides thorough and knowledgeable telephone triage on health-related information and intervention recommendations.
  7. Provides nursing care per criteria in the Nurse Practice Act, including delegation.
  8. Maintains nursing documentation and data collection.

Additional Functions

  1. Takes precautions to provide for the health and safety of all students.
  2. Takes precautions to secure and protect District material, equipment, and facilities.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Current license in the State of Oregon as a Registered Nurse
  2. Bachelor’s degree
  3. Current Oregon driver’s license and ability to provide reliable transportation for own use
  4. Current CPR/AED for health care provider certification
  5. Demonstrated ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.

Work Environment

Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions with routine exposure to the weather including seasonal heat and cold. Subject to frequent loud noises in the environment.

Physical Requirements

Hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform assigned duties; sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment; kneeling,

bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and materials, and lifting light objects.

Strength: Sedentary/Medium – Exert force to 10-25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. May be required to restrain a student using moderate strength (20-50 pounds push or pull) and MANDT techniques.

Intermittent bending, twisting, squatting kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, reaching. On feet throughout the day. Work effectively in an environment which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing.

Work with students who may exhibit aggressive assaultive behavior, as required of specific job assignment.

Minimum Term of Employment

Dependent on the employee’s status and the terms of the current licensed employee collective bargaining agreement.

Salary Level

Placement on the current Salem-Keizer Public Schools licensed employee salary schedule.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated according to the District’s process for evaluation of licensed personnel.
