Teacher
JOB SUMMARY: The Teacher is defined as one whose primary concern is to maintain a positive learning environment and the improvement of learning opportunities for students. The Teacher will also guide volunteers in instructional methods.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate student curriculum needs
- Tutor to engage students in ongoing learning
- Demonstrate de-escalation behaviors
- Address challenging behaviors as they arise to maintain a positive learning environment
- Manage multiple student needs
- Assist with setting academic goals for students, including monitoring and provision of educational needs
- Contact parents and assure all communications regarding students are documented and provided to the case management team for central file (phone calls, emails, texts, etc.)
- Be available to step in as needed (i.e. tutoring, helping with behavioral issues)
- Work with volunteers and assist with any problems or questions
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Prefered valid teaching license
- Ability to lift at least 20lbs
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time
- Knowledge and ability to assist with High School Math
- A basic understanding of youths with emotional and behavioral disorders, including trauma-informed care and the impact of various forms of chemical dependency
- Concept of restorative practices used in classroom settings
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to evaluate the academic needs of middle and high school youth
- Have a general understanding of racial and ethnic diversity in a school setting
- Understand the criminogenic needs as they relate to juvenile offenders and their families
- Possess a valid KS Driver’s License
CONDUCT: The Teacher must, at all times, model pro-social behavior and be able to teach, correct, and instruct students and volunteers to do the same.
