Pay: $18.00 per hour
Additional hourly differentials (extra pay for working non-standard hours or possessing language skills) are available for all hours actually worked:
· $2.00 per hour for Resident Advocate graveyard/weekend hours; and
· .50 cents per hour bilingual English/Spanish fluency.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for a travel stipend of $15.00 per shift if the employee resides outside of Carbon County.
Schedule: Flexibility in shifts worked is required as Shelter Services operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Available shifts may include: 6am–2pm; 2pm–10pm; and 10pm–6am.

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Resident Advocate is primarily responsible for attending to the needs of Shelter residents, providing crisis support to callers on the 24-hour help line, and supporting the safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of the Shelter facility.
South Valley Services is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide options to anyone who has experienced domestic and sexual violence. SVS provides free and confidential services including emergency shelter, safe housing, trauma-informed counseling, advocacy, and tools for life.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
· Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance. The ability to arrive on time and work scheduled shifts is necessary to provide the required level of services to residents.
· Answer and manage multiple phone lines on the 24-hour help line; provide crisis advocacy, safety planning support, and referrals and information to help callers with guidance and resources; and document all activities in electronic database.
· Provide supportive advocacy, active listening, and support residential living needs for Shelter residents, including help answering questions and providing supplies.
· Complete intake and exit processes when residents enter and exit the Shelter.
· Clean bedrooms and bathrooms upon exit of residents and perform tasks necessary to maintain all areas free from health/safety/fire hazards.
· Demonstrate support for/practice SVS strategic imperative of being part of a 360-degree, trauma-informed organization.
· Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents, staff, volunteers, donors, and vendors.
· Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of all client information.
· Conduct safety and security checks of residents and property by moving inside and outside the facility.
· Assist residents with meal preparation as needed.
· Perform CPR and administer First Aid as needed.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Attend all required meetings and complete all required training.
· Organize activities for group meetings and serve as facilitator when assigned.
· Observe camera security system to ensure resident safety and property security.
· Perform various tasks to meet sanitation, safety, health, and licensing requirements.
· Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing in English.
· Ability to demonstrate/utilize compassion, empathy, and respect when interacting with residents and callers on the 24-hour helpline.
· Ability to work collaboratively with SVS staff.
REQUIRED AFTER HIRE TO MAINTAIN QUALIFICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT
· Achieve and maintain eligible status on Direct Access Clearance System (DACS) criminal background check.
· Obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within first 30 days and recertify every two years to keep certification current.
· Complete 40 hours of core advocacy training with the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition within first six months of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Education or experience in any Human Services field.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work environment involves a range of activities. Tasks include desk-based responsibilities such as answering phone lines and entering information into a computer. Staff interact with residents throughout the Shelter to support daily needs. Duties also involve moving around outside the Shelter for perimeter/safety checks. Resident Advocates are responsible for cleaning and sanitizing resident rooms and bathrooms, and restocking supplies in common areas. Basic cleaning tasks include but are not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, changing bed sheets and washing linens, and sanitizing bathrooms.
These responsibilities require using stairs, lifting and moving items for cleaning and stocking purposes, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
EQUIPMENT USED
Operation/use of general office equipment such as telephone, computer, scanner, and copy machine, and camera security system. Use of general cleaning supplies and tools/equipment such as a mop, broom, vacuum, and washer/dryer.
Use of shovel and battery-operated snow blower during winter storms.
