Shelter Manager (Price, UT)

PAY: Starting $24-$26 per hour (DOE)

Additional hourly differentials (extra pay for working non-standard hours or possessing language skills) are available for all hours actually worked:

· $2.00 per hour for graveyard/weekend hours; and

· .50 cents per hour bilingual English/Spanish fluency.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for a travel stipend of $15.00 per shift if the employee resides outside of Carbon County.

Schedule: Flexibility in shifts worked is required as Shelter Services operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Participation in on-call rotation is required.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Shelter Manager position oversees operational activities at South Valley Services- Colleen Quigley Center to provide shelter and support for individuals affected by domestic or sexual violence. As a member of the leadership team, the Shelter Manager collaborates with the Director and is responsible for evaluating and implementing programs that are aligned with the organization's mission and client needs. This role also includes mentoring and training Resident Advocates, ensuring that shelter services follow trauma-informed practices and adhere to a survivor empowerment model.

South Valley Services is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide options to anyone who has experienced domestic and sexual violence. SVS provides free and confidential services including emergency shelter, safe housing, trauma-informed counseling, advocacy, and tools for life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide oversight and program supervision to ensure that DHHS licensing requirements and established policies and procedures are followed, and all clients are served in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Responsible for program operations.
  • Responsible for direct supervision of all Colleen Quigley Center staff.
  • Participate in program on-call responsibilities and be available to staff for assistance in handling problem situations.
  • Demonstrate support for/practice SVS strategic imperative of being part of a 360-degree, trauma-informed organization.
  • Conduct weekly Shelter meetings.
  • Participate in weekly Case Managers’ meetings.
  • Responsible for meeting with residents at intake.
  • Responsible for conducting exit interviews and exit surveys.
  • Assist Resident Advocates on the floor as needed.
  • Responsible for resident extensions with assistance from the Case Managers.
  • Assist with required funding and licensing reports.
  • Assist in the safe operation and maintenance of the Shelter facility, with assistance from the Lead Advocate, and will report any needed repairs or maintenance to the Director.
  • Attend/assist with community outreach, meetings, and other events as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners, including housing programs, homeless shelters, other domestic violence programs, police departments, and other agencies that provide resources that help support survivor needs.
  • Provide Shelter shift coverage when necessary.
  • Assist with hiring and oversight of Resident Advocates, including scheduling/facilitating regular one-on-one feedback meetings.
  • Oversee training for Resident Advocates to ensure best practice and procedures are utilized and ensure all RA’s meet licensing requirements, in coordination with the Lead Resident Advocate.
  • Work in partnership with the Director to set data-informed goals and monitor progress toward goal achievement.
  • Review client files for accuracy and completion, including intake signatures, exit documents, and all other required documentation.
  • Responsible for purchasing Shelter supplies.
  • Perform CPR and administer First Aid as needed.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • Attend all required meetings and complete all required training.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and staff.
  • Complete miscellaneous duties to comply with sanitation, safety, health, and licensing regulations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Minimum of two years of work-related experience in a domestic violence shelter and/or victim service.
  • Ability to lead others, including but not limited to the ability to motivate, delegate responsibility, and train/coach others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to demonstrate/practice crisis intervention/de-escalation skills.

REQUIRED AFTER HIRE TO MAINTAIN QUALIFICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT

· Achieve and maintain eligible status on Direct Access Clearance System (DACS) criminal background check.

· Obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within first 30 days and recertify every two years to keep certification current.

· Complete 40 hours of core advocacy training with the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition within first six months of employment.

· State of Utah Case Manager certification within first six months of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral science.
  • Knowledge of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault laws, U-Visa process and other immigration matters, Protective Orders and Stalking Injunctions.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work environment involves a range of activities. Tasks include desk-based responsibilities such as answering phone lines and entering information into a computer. All staff interact with residents throughout the Shelter to support daily needs. Duties also involve moving around outside the Shelter for perimeter/safety checks. Resident Advocates are responsible for cleaning and sanitizing resident rooms and bathrooms, and restocking supplies in common areas. Basic cleaning tasks include but are not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, changing bed sheets and washing linens, and sanitizing bathrooms.

These responsibilities require using stairs, lifting and moving items for cleaning and stocking purposes, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

EQUIPMENT USED

Operation of basic office equipment such as telephone, computer, scanner, copy machine, and camera security system; and basic cleaning tools such as mop, broom, vacuum, and washer/dryer.

Use of shovel and battery-operated snow blower during winter storms.
