Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator

$26.57 - $39.86 Hourly

$55,273 - $82,909 Annually

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

This position is in the Center for Health Protection of the New Mexico Department of Health in the Office of Injury & Violence Prevention. Currently, there are programs to prevent community violence, childhood injuries, sexual violence, suicide, and older adult falls.  This section also holds two surveillance programs, The National Violent Death Reporting System and the NM Child Fatality Review. The Injury & Violence Prevention Section presently has over 20 positions, housed in three units- epidemiology unit, the injury prevention program unit and the violence prevention program unit.

Why does the job exist?

 

The position coordinates sexual violence prevention programs throughout New Mexico in order to reduce the number of incidents and the rate of sexual violence. The incumbent will plan, organize, and supervise effective prevention programs and initiatives aligned with the Department's goal of reducing sexual violence rates in New Mexico. The position will write grants to acquire funding for sexual violence prevention programming and craft requests for proposals to elicit responses from potential contractors. The sexual violence prevention coordinator works with contractors to develop scopes of work in order to increase organizational capacity to deliver sexual violence prevention programming. The incumbent negotiates and manages contracts, including writing scopes of work, reviewing invoices and deliverables, and monitoring spending to ensure that all funds are spent effectively. The position also functions as part of the larger Injury Prevention Team.

Contract development and budget management are key responsibilities. Strong writing ability, including grant writing. Strong communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work with diverse community-based entities in order to accomplish Department of Health goals.

Minimum Qualification

 


Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

 

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

 

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting.  Must be able to lift 15 lbs.  Some travel with occasional overnight stays is also required.
