Special Education Paraprofessional

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to support teachers and assist students in their educational journey. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping students using Montessori philosophies. The candidate will work closely with students, particularly those with special needs, to foster an inclusive learning environment. This role requires a strong commitment to enhancing the educational experience for all students, ensuring they receive the necessary support in their academic and personal development.

Duties

  • Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities.
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Provide individualized or small group support to students.
  • Support classroom management and behavior management strategies to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress. Communicate this information to the teachers and support staff.
  • Engage in early childhood education practices, promoting childhood development through play and structured activities.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification or positive reinforcement.
  • Maintain open communication with teachers, parents, and other staff members about student needs and progress.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Carry out therapeutic regimens, such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special education instructors, psychologists, or speech-language pathologists.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills in order to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Strong background in lesson planning, literacy education, and math instruction.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education principles and childhood development stages.
  • Proficiency in classroom management techniques to create an effective learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and staff.
  • Understanding of Montessori methods or similar educational philosophies is beneficial.

Experience

  • An associates degree or higher in Education or a related field is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of age groups in an educational setting.
  • Experience with Montessori Philosophies is a plus but not required.
  • Experience in special education or working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
