ART TEACHER
JOB DESCRIPTION
• The Art Teacher, under the general supervision of the Principal, will instruct a variety of art classes in grades ranging from 6-12
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge and practical application of behavioral principles and instructional practices, methods and strategies, including classroom management based on positive reinforcement; and maintain personal qualities of leadership, integrity, fairness, optimism, self-confidence, persistence and vitality
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Fosters a safe and nurturing learning environment
• Continuously builds professional knowledge
• Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
• Establishes an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college
• Develops and maintains lesson plans according to the California state standards
• Prepares lesson plans for substitutes
• Builds strong relationships with students and parents
• Communicates with parents/guardians
• Identifies student's areas for improvement and is able to work with the student and family and internal resources to suggest options for improvement
• Provides continual assessment of student progress, maintain student records and portfolios, and complete assigned paperwork in provided timeframes
• Conducts both student and teacher lead parent conferences
• Collaborates with the Special Ed Department Resource Specialist to meet the needs of all students
• Attends and participates in all school staff meetings, Parent/Teacher meetings, and other school-based meetings and activities
• Performs assigned duties
• Attends and implements professional development training throughout and beyond the school year
• Demonstrates support and knowledge of school's goals and mission
• Is detail oriented when tracking students' grades, attendance, and other student data
• Works with the Principal and Assistant Principal to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standards
• Perform related duties as assigned
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
• Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential, Single Subjects in Art or be eligible to apply for the credential
• Fingerprint clearance
• TB Clearance
QUALIFICATIONS:
• The candidate should have effective leadership and team-building skills with a strong background in art and teaching
• Demonstrated commitment to the population we serve
• Strong teaching capabilities in the area of Art
• Strong classroom instructor: clarity, able to engage students, set expectations for behavior. Must be willing to work with multiple skill levels in one class
• Ability to develop curriculum that connects to Modoc Joint Unified School District’s curricular goals and meets California State framework
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively with peers, students, parents and community
•Energetic, enthusiastic and creative
•Flexibility with weekend and evening events is required
•Additional skills are collaboration, advising, flexibility, and judgment

SALARY RANGE:
•Placement on the MJUSD Certificated Salary Schedule plus $2,000 stipend for Masters Degree. Salary range placement based on education and experience
