Juvenile Probation Officer
Position Summary
The Juvenile Probation Officer – In Home Confinement is responsible for monitoring court-ordered youth placed on Home Detention to ensure compliance with judicial directives. This position emphasizes accountability, community safety, and rehabilitation through evidence-based practices. The officer works collaboratively with youth, families, and schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct compliance checks in the home and community for youth ordered to IHC, including scheduled and unscheduled visits.
- Meet regularly with youth, families, schools, and involved agencies to monitor compliance and address barriers to successful completion of court orders.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case files in accordance with department standards and court requirements.
- Prepare and submit Court Compliance Reports documenting youth progress, violations, and recommendations to the court.
- Apply best practices in juvenile supervision, including evidence-based strategies for addressing criminogenic needs.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of the Risk, Needs, and Responsivity (RNR) model when supervising youth.
- Participate in required training, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and court mandates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of juvenile justice principles, home detention supervision, and evidence-based practices.
- Working knowledge of the Risk, Needs, and Responsivity (RNR) model.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with youth, families, schools, and community agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
- Ability to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism in high-stress situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field
- Must be a resident of the State of Illinois or approved exemption
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must pass pre-employment background check and wellness exam including drug screen
- Must comply with all federal and state laws; to include prohibition of the consumption, possession, sale, purchase or delivery of cannabis or cannabis infused substances

- Bilingual, English/Spanish Language Skills Preferred
