Physical Education Teacher

Position Title: Physical Education Teacher – HS 

Building: Mason High School / Mason Public Schools / In-Person 

Reports to: High School Principal

We are looking to hire two candidates for this position.

Job Summary:  The PE Teacher helps develop students' physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and overall wellbeing in a safe and fun learning environment.  The PE Teacher also supports students in developing healthy lifestyle habits through structured sports, exercise, and movement based learning. 

       
Required Qualifications:

  • Current Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MX) or Physical Education (MB) and Health (MA) Certification
  • Demonstrated positive attitude and rapport with students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification in an additional instructional area
  • Demonstrate effective lesson design and instructional techniques
  • Experience integrating common core standards into Physical Education.
  • Ability to develop and manage field days and other co-curricular activities
  • Possess innovative teaching techniques to work with at-risk and special needs students
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management skills
  • Strength in utilizing innovative teaching strategies
  • Knowledge of current trends/research in physical education
  • Possess a flexible, creative, energetic personality
  • Evidence of being highly organized and having excellent time-management skills.
  • Experience working as a member of a Professional Learning Community.
  • Experience as a member of a School Improvement Team.
  • CPR and First Aid Instructor Certification


Job Description:       

  • Responsible for teaching physical education and health in grades 9-12.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Work with colleagues regarding content, assessment, and instruction.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning community both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Provide availability to students and parents for education-related purposes during and outside the instructional day.
  • Follow the goals of students with an IEP or 504 plan.


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking. 
  • The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and/or movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day. 
  • Work may take place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or field trip locations.

Work Year and Salary: Per the MDMEA bargaining unit agreement

Schedule: Position begins 2026-2027 School Year, with a desired start date of August, 2026.
