UTRGV Athletics - Operations Internship

UTRGV Athletics is looking for an outgoing and qualified candidate to take on the responsibility of working sporting events within the department. Candidates will execute components of game administration, assisting in facility management, including set up and break down for athletic events, crowd control, food & beverage operations, and in-game management. Athletics Operations intern will also perform other duties within the realm of Athletics Operations, including equipment management, asset inventory control, and strategic planning of athletic events.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Athletics Operations department with the day to day tasks and activities that oversee events, facilities, and equipment management.
  • Assist with general paperwork tasks (student assistants’ PAF creation, work orders submissions, quote reviews, etc.).
  • Inventory and distribution of Athletics gear equipment.
  • Responsible for the set up and break down of all UTRGV Athletics NCAA home games
  • Set up equipment includes, but is not limited to, tents, sponsorship banners, flags, stanchions, tables, chairs, bleachers
  • Set up and troubleshoot of speakers, stat crew, replay system, scoreboard controller, audio mixer amongst other game day equipment
  • Have facility areas ready and accessible to staff and customers (locker rooms, media room, hospitality rooms, concession stand)
  • Facilitator of fan experience
  • Assist with game day administration (game operations, crowd management, traffic control)
  • Assist with staffing and scheduling of Concession Stand workers and In-Game Ball Runners
  • Oversight of Concession Stand workers 
  • Collaborate with coaches, players, referees and athletic trainers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Learning Outcomes
  • The intern will learn the overall operations of facility management, event coordination, and equipment operations in an Athletics department.
  • The intern will be exposed to different areas of human resources, screening resumes, interviewing prospective student workers, and be involved in the hiring, training, and on-boarding processes of all student workers.
  • The intern will gain analytical skills by reviewing previous years’ revenue and profit data in order to forecast better staffing and implement budget/inventory controls for fiscal year 2020.
  • The intern will be able to experience pre-game meetings and logistics discussions to prepare for the week’s events.
  • The intern will gain experience in event management and facility set up, assisting the Game Day team with all aspects of event coordination and game administration.
  • The intern will gain experience in hospitality and customer service, working directly with visiting teams, coaches, game officials, and game day fans.
  • The intern will gain experience in logistics and inventory controls, working directly with the equipment operations team inventorying all adidas equipment and apparel, storing it, and distributing it to its respective sports.
