UTRGV Athletics - Business Office Internship
To perform a variety of technical and clerical accounting duties involving the accounting, budgeting, recording and reporting of financial transactions and provide dependable accounting assistance for the performance of many varied accounting office tasks requiring limited independent judgment. Responsible for assisting in accounting tasks in pre-auditing accounting documents, making debit and credit postings to individual accounts.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepares, researches and processes payment vouchers, journal vouchers, cash receipts vouchers, and other covering documents affecting transfer or payment of funds.
- Maintains and reconciles a variety of ledgers, reports and account records; verifies and maintains deposits for a variety of ledger accounts.
- Prepares original accounting entries within established guidelines and procedures for journals and ledgers, monthly reconciliations.
- Collects and records accounting data from various sources for analysis by others.
- Responds to various questions and inquiries from University students, faculty and staff as required. Assists in preparing various periodic financial reports and verifies the accuracy of entries.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of financial reports and correspondence as necessary regarding transactions made.
- Posts data to ledgers and reports.
- Processes budget transactions and related documentation.
- Prepares invoices for billings.
- Maintains inventory for capital equipment, consumable supplies, and other departmental assets.
- Processes payments received.
- Reconciles accounts.
- Types letters and memos related to payment processing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- The intern will learn to apply methods of accounting learned in the classroom to a real world setting through the utilization of various accounting systems.
- The intern will develop the ability to organize workflow to maximize efficiency to meet department deadlines.
- The intern will enhance communication skills through the daily interaction with peers, internal support staff, coaching staff as well as external vendors and partners needed to complete assigned tasks.
- The intern will develop the ability to problem solve through analyzing and interpreting information provided and determine the next course of action based on training and department guidelines.
