Job Description:
The Space and Geophysics Laboratory (SGL) delivers multi-platform software suites to government customers for diverse applications, from real-time data-intensive network operations to standalone remote field systems, in both Linux and Windows environments.

We are seeking an energetic software developer with a solid understanding of web development and user experience. As a key member of the team you will be responsible for the full life-cycle software development; design, implementation, test, documentation, deployment, and sustainment of web applications in fulfillment of sponsored requirements. The products you will be implementing / maintaining will be filled with new and emerging technologies.

Job Details:
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new features (e.g., advanced processing options, data visualization) for a web-based GPS/GNSS data processing application.
  • Support the web application through quick responses to errors and user requests.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on potential security vulnerabilities, and maintain the service through rapid applications of security updates.
  • Document progress and completion of work.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to student employees.
  • Further develop knowledge and skills related to web development (JavaScript and front-end frameworks), backend-frameworks (PHP/Flask/Django), software development principles, principles of geodesy and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), and estimation theory.
  • Participate in project reviews and technical interface meetings to present software designs and test results to sponsors and other external organizations.
  • Present and publish work in trade conferences.
  • Other related functions as assigned.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Geodesy or similar.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and modern front-end frameworks such as React, Vue and others.
  • Experience with Python and server-side frameworks like Flask or Django.
  • Experience with Data Visualization Technologies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software development.
  • Experience with Linux terminal-based environments including bash.

Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving skills and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with diverse groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.






Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience developing on Linux and Windows platforms
  • Experience with Python and MySQL
  • Experience with both front-end and back-end web development
  • Experience maintaining and administrating Linux servers
  • Experience with software configuration management processes, e.g. Git, GitLab
  • Experience developing software applications in math, science, or engineering domains
  • History of publications in relevant journals and/or industry conferences
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0
