Compass Rose Teacher Resident

Your mission

Compass Rose aims to redefine what’s possible in public education and to create game-changing educators. We have a shared belief that all students deserve an excellent education and together we focus on preparing and supporting outstanding teachers and school leaders to achieve that goal. 

The Compass Rose Teaching Residency is a one-year innovative residency program that provides aspiring teachers with a supportive and hands-on introduction to teaching. You will gain exceptional mentorship, state certification and help to find a teaching role the following school year.

Our program requires that you commit to Compass Rose and our communities for two years including your residency year.

In year one you

  • are on an accelerated on-ramp to teaching with coaching support and monthly professional development designed especially for our residency program
  • are assigned a mentor teacher
  • earn your state certification through our partner certification program
  • earn a salary of $30,000 annual salary and Compass Rose covers most of the cost of your certification
  • Will build your teaching expertise through bi-weekly training sessions up to 6 hours per month
  • own student growth in tutoring sessions that occur after school, weekends, and during extended school breaks
  • teach whole group and intervention classes; substitute for lead teachers when needed and other duties as assigned


In year two you

  • upon completion of satisfactory resident performance and certification exam, are placed to teach with continued coaching and mentoring
  • earn a teacher's salary
 

You

  • Agree to participate in weekly COVID testing per Compass Rose policy
  • Are excited to make a two-year commitment to Compass Rose Public Schools (2nd year teaching assignment is contingent upon satisfactory performance)
  • Have a desire to teach and serve our local communities
  • Are resilient and have a strong desire to grow and improve in your practice
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by summer of 2021
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Can pass a criminal background check
  • Have strong learning, leadership, and social justice mindsets
 

Selection Steps

 
  • Submit your application for Compass Rose Teacher Residency
  • Be invited to a phone screen and/or final interview
  • If selected by Compass Rose, you will complete the steps necessary to apply for our partner certification program.
 

Compensation and Benefits

 
  • Year 1: $30,000 annual salary
