About the Position

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be a vital member of Maricopa County’s Correctional Health Team and work in partnership with Maricopa County Sheriff’s Detention Officers. You will perform specialized nursing functions, including administering medications, therapeutic treatments, providing extensive patient care, participating in the planning, implementation, and overall nursing care evaluation.

Check out our compensated shifts in addition to our base wage:
  • An additional $1.75 per hour for hours worked between 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm
  • An additional $2.90 per hour for hours worked between 10:30 pm – 6:30 am

Position Qualifications

Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
 
Other Requirements
  • A valid, unrestricted license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing or issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license state
  • Compact licenses will be accepted for the interview process; however, a valid Arizona nursing license is required upon hire
  • A BLS, CPR, and First Aid certification training is provided during new hire orientation
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Must complete an MCSO-HR fingerprint/background check
 
Our Preferred Candidate has
  • Experience as an LPN
  • Experience in a medical setting, requiring large medication passes
  • Intravenous Infusion Therapy/Venipuncture certification

Essential Job Tasks
The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.
  • Provides healthcare to patients inside the Maricopa County Jails
  • Performs standard nursing procedures as ordered
  • Provides health-related education as appropriate to patient needs
  • Administers medication and completes related pharmacological procedures
  • Collects data for assessment of care needs, reports findings, and delivers appropriate nursing interventions under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Health Care provider 
  • Monitors patient’s progress and reports outcomes
  • Completes and processes all required documentation in a comprehensive and objective manner 
  • Uses multilingual capabilities for accurate oral translation and communication to ensure continuity of care; uses a “language line” translation service to ensure continuity of care
  • Participates in orientation and training of new employees, contract staff, students, and others as needed
  • Participates in QI related activities as assigned
  • Organizes and maintains a clean work environment
 
Working Conditions
Must be able to work inside a jail. You will be assigned to various clinical locations in the Phoenix area within a 5-mile radius. Must be able to respond to emergencies. Must maintain CPR certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, lift patients on a gurney.

Selection Procedure
The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.
