Library Associate, Circulation & Reserves

Summary:
This position is responsible for opening and closing the entire building and overseeing the daily operations of the Circulation/Reserves desk, including student employees, in coordination with other library faculty and staff.
 
Duties: 
  • Opening and closing the building, overseeing student employees as they perform assigned tasks related to opening and closing procedures.
  • Perform all tasks relevant to the operation of Circulation/Reserves, such as cross training other staff members and training the student employees.
  • Will be assigned to work evenings and/ or weekend hours
  • Provide customer service, including guiding patrons to the point of service that will be able to best meet their need as well as assisting with all Circulation/Reserves, and interlibrary loan requests.
  • Maintains the book stacks including re-shelving books and periodicals, inventory of books and shifting of books to alleviate overcrowding as well as training, overseeing, and assisting student employees in these tasks.
  • Serve as backup for staff and/or students as needed.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains and acquires new skills and knowledge both to remain up-to-date for compliance and to enhance job skills.
  • Participates on library and university committees as assigned or as time permits.

Minimum Qualifications

Education / Experience: 
  • A high school diploma or equivalent required and 1 year of library experience or two years’ experience in retail and/or customer service. 
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
 
Knowledge:
• Standard library and office practices and procedures
• Understand, interpret and carry out detailed oral and written instructions
• Basic computer skills including: internet navigation and Microsoft Office
• Communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the general public
 
Skills:
• Working ability to search for and locate library print and electronic resources 
• Good oral and written communication skills 
• Ability to interact and communicate with faculty, staff, students, and library patrons 
• Capable of working with a diverse population 
• Capable of learning and using workflows 
• Capable of using copy machines, fax machines, printers, computers, scanners, and cash registers 
• Understand, interpret, and carry out detailed oral and written instructions 
• Good customer service skills

Some college credit is preferred. 

Two year’s experience in retail and/or customer service preferred. 

Experience in the use of a library classification system (i.e., Library of Congress Classification (LCC) or Dewey Decimal System) preferred.

Salary: $22,880
