Counselor (LPC, LPC-S, LCSW, LPC Associate)

MISSION:

The Children’s Bereavement Center San Antonio Texas (CBCST) was established in 1997 to serve grieving children following the death of a parent, sibling, or family member. The CBCST is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster healing for grieving youth, their families and the community through peer support programs, counseling, training, education and outreach. CBCST is the parent company of Children’s Bereavement Center Rio Grande Valley (CBC-RGV). CBC-RGV began in 2017 in Harlingen, Texas.






JOB SUMMARY:

The Counselor provides direct client services and also supervises the delivery of services as part of a collaborative team of staff, volunteers and other community relationships. Counselors ensure that direct service delivery is in conformity with CBC-RGV, requirements (and with contractual and stakeholder requirements when present) and the coordination of accurate collection of client and service activity data. Services include direct service to clients by conducting intakes, counseling, coordinating and facilitating peer support groups, coordinating and facilitating grief camps and supervision of interns and volunteers. In addition, Counselors collaborate with CBC-RGV to coordinate and implement special programs. The Counselor/Internship Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating all student internships to make certain of quality service delivery of peer support groups and counseling services. Standard work week for this position is Monday – Friday, with occasional evening and weekend programs/events.






ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

A.   Direct Services
1.      Conducts phone intakes and schedules initial appointments for clients
2.      Performs initial assessments for clients and families and assigns individuals to the appropriate service or referral
3.      Provides individual and family counseling
4.      Coordinates and facilitates peer support groups
5.      Coordinate and facilitate grief camps and/or other special programs
6.      Provides supervision of interns
7.      Monitors families in assigned peer support groups and assists with crisis intervention
8.      Coordinates the program curriculum and manages the logistical working structure of support groups
9.      Conducts program volunteer/student interviews






B.   Administration

1.      Establishes goals and objectives that are in accordance with the organization’s mission, policies, and strategic plan
2.      Assists in preparing therapeutic interventions for counseling and curriculum for peer support groups
3.      Maintains appropriate and timely documentation of client files
4.      Updates the Lead Counselor with progress of clients, students, associate counselors, and program volunteers
5.      Prepares schedules for program volunteers and practicum/intern students
6.      Maintains appropriate documentation of volunteer and intern files and service hours
7.      Attends all staff and program meetings






C. Collaboration

1.      Partners with the Lead Counselor to assist with recruitment of program volunteers and interns
2.      Coordinates and conducts trainings and workshops, as needed
3.      Works with the Development department to assist with fundraising and special events
4.      Maintains open communication and collaboration with all staff members and departments
5.      Participates in awareness/education presentations and events as needed
6.      Supports CBC-RGV in community outreach events, as needed






EDUCATION/SKILLS/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

1.      Licensed Doctoral or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field
2.      2 -3 years of post-Master’s experience in related field
3.      Experience in grief, loss and trauma for children and adults
4.      Experience in working with diverse and multicultural populations
5.      Strong organizational skills, time management skills and adept at multi-tasking
6.      Strong verbal and writing communication skills including public speaking
7.      Excellent people skills such as, leadership, teamwork and customer service
8.      Proficient use of computers, internet, social media, Microsoft Office suite of programs, and multi-line phone system





9.  Bilingual preferred
