Welder - New Braunfels, TX and Surrounding Areas

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for completing all welding operations in the District.
 
Education / Certification:
  1. High School Diploma / GED.
  2. Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
  1. Knowledge and skills to make horizontal, vertical and overhead welds using both electric arc welding and oxyfuel welding equipment.
  2. Possess ability to safely complete a variety of metal working processes including welding, brazing and cutting.
  3. Average knowledge and proficiency to use and/or learn to use a personal computer. Above average proficiency is required in the use of Mantenance Software.
Experience / Other Requirements:
  1. Five years or more general experience in electric arc welding, oxyfuel welding, stainless steel welding, aluminum welding and iron welding is required.
  2. Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Responsible for fabrication and repair of machine parts, motors, trailers, chillers, gas lines, water lines, kitchen equipment, boilers and other types of mechanical equipment.
  2. Works independently using blueprints and work orders and exercises judgment in selecting welding processes and equipment.
  3. Writes work estimates, finishes layout work, reads shop manuals and safety guidelines and material safety data sheets.
  4. Makes horizontal, vertical and overhead welds using both electric arc welding and oxyfuel welding equipment.
  5. Performs a variety of metal working processes including welding, brazing and cutting.
  6. Responsible for carrying out work estimates and welding tasks with minimal supervision.
  7. Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  8. Frequently required to drive District vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks.
  9. Reports to work on time every day.
  10. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell.

  3. Frequent climbing or balancing.

  5. Frequently required to work in a confined space.
  6. Tasks are performed inside and outside in extreme inclement weather with occasional exposure to cold, heat, dampness, cuts, bruises, ultraviolet sunburn, and burns from hand or power tools.
  7. The welding operation can generate gases or fumes from the metal, flux, metal surface coatings or surface contaminants, all causing serious lung irritation. Toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide may also be formed by some flames or arcs, making ventilation and respiratory protection a major concern.
  8. Constantly exposed to hot flying flecks of metal that can cause skin burns and set fire to clothing.
  9. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and high precarious places.
  10. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration.
  11. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and risk of radiation.
  12. Personal protective equipment is required to be worn when performing tasks that might subject employee to injury.
  13. Frequent exposure to high noise levels.
  14. Moderate degree of communication (verbal and written), understanding verbal instructions and emotional control.
  15. May be required to work outside of normal duty hours and/or weekends or holidays in order to handle emergencies if they arise.
  16. Required to carry District provided pager or two-way radios to respond to emergency service calls on a 24 hour basis.
  17. The employee is required to frequently drive District vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks. The individual must pass a pre-employment physical examination to include alcohol and drug testing. The employee may be required to submit to drug and alcohol screening at any time throughout employment without prior notification.
