Teacher on Administrative Assignment

GENERAL PURPOSE
Reporting to the Building Principal, the Teacher on Administrative Assignment completes administrative duties as assigned to support the successful instructional program of the school and their own development as potential building leaders. Successful candidates will have strong instructional knowledge, the ability to implement effective restorative practices for student misconduct and lead other staff members to do so, and provide enthusiastic support for a positive school culture and learning environment for students.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·        Maintain a positive school culture and safe learning environment
·        Support and model a healthy school environment in accordance with the mission, vision, and/or core values adopted by the assigned school.
·        Serve as a primary point of contact for teachers and other staff referring violations of the Student Code of Conduct to administration.
·        Provide guidance to students to facilitate de-escalation of situations and restorative resolution of conflict.
·        Assist in providing for the safe arrival and departure of students.
·        Attend school-sponsored activities, including supervision of co-curricular and athletic activities, as assigned by the building principal.
·        Assist in planning, supervising, and executing emergency preparedness programs, and assist as warranted in emergency situations.
Support a strong instructional program
·        Provide guidance to and/or participate in professional learning communities and other instructional development efforts in assigned grades and/or departments.
·        Collaborate with department leaders, teachers, and other administrators to monitor student progress and plans for intervention.
·        Conduct classroom observations, with support and guidance from building administrators, and provide feedback to teachers aligned to adopted performance standards.
·        Participate in division-wide programs for instructional improvement.
·        Serve as teacher of record for up to 50 percent of scheduled time in classes aligned to endorsement area and/or electives not requiring a specific endorsement.

·        Respond promptly and thoroughly to written and oral requests for information.
·        Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.

·        Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality.
·        Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
·        Hold a Postgraduate Professional License issued by the Virginia Department of Education; endorsement for Administration and Supervision preferred but not required.
·        Have completed an accredited program in Administration and Supervision approved by the Virginia Department of Education for adding the Administrative and Supervision endorsement, or be enrolled in such a program presently.
·        Have at least three years of successful full-time experience as a teacher, supervisor, or administrator; experience at the school/grade level of the intended assignment preferred.
·        Reference from current building principal and/or prior building principal endorsing ability to serve in an administrative capacity.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
·        Knowledge of Virginia instructional standards and best practices for ensuring student success in multiple learning environments.
·        Knowledge of the SCPS Student Code of Conduct.
·        Ability to demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
·        Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication for a variety of audiences; and thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage.
·        Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, support groups and community.
·        Ability to deescalate conflicts among students or between students and staff to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all.
·        Ability to assume leadership in pursuing the mission, goals and objectives of the school division and of the school’s annual plan.
·        Ability to adapt to change and maintain flexibility.
·        Ability to address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes.
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
·        Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate, and may include outdoor responsibilities with exposure to weather.
·        The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
·        Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
·        Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking.
