Mental Health Jail Diversion Specialist

Position Title
Mental Health Jail Diversion Specialist – M.S. – Angelina Mental Health Clinic – Lufkin, TX 

General Description
This position will be part of a developing team in Angelina County.  The mental health professional will work with probation officers, judges, police, and sheriff departments to minimize the legal system’s involvement in situations where the primary concern is the mental health of the individual. Services will be provided in the office, home and/or community and will include crisis services as well as other appropriate direct care services. Duties will also include screening, assessing, and linking the individual to the appropriate resources. Excellent communication, team building, and proficient and timely documentation skills are required. This position reports to the MCOT Clinical Coordinator.

Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited college or university.

Experience
Preferred: Six (6) months' experience in a Human Services, Education or Behavioral Healthcare setting, working with an adolescent population 
Preferred: Six (6) months' experience in a Juvenile or Criminal Justice Setting

Licenses/Certifications
Required: Valid Texas Driver’s License 
Preferred: LCSW, LPC or LMFT

Physical Requirements
Required: Sight, hearing, talking, lifting up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, walking, driving a vehicle, and hand/finger dexterity.

Special Requests or Comments
Required: Must be physically able to complete Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA), CPR, First Aid and Defensive Driving training modules. Applicant must have a driving record insurable by Burke's insurance administrator. 

Hours
Initially, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, on call rotation nights and weekends when needed. As the program develops, non-traditional hours will be targeted based on community needs. Examples include shifts such as 11:00 am – 8:00 pm (weekdays) and/or possibly weekend coverage.

Salary
$37,596 - $38,832 annually, depending on qualifications and experience; travel reimbursement provided
