Job Description

The mission of Bureau of HIV (BHIV) is to end HIV transmission, promote the health of all New Yorkers with or vulnerable to HIV, reduce HIV-related inequities and combat stigma.

The ACE (Assess. Connect. Engage.) Unit in the HIV Epidemiology Program (HEP) of the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is responsible for providing support for HIV partner and linkage to care services to medical providers and people with HIV diagnosis throughout New York City (NYC).

The City of New York (NYC) has a large and diverse HIV epidemic. In addition to partner and linkage to care services, HEP program staff collect:

HIV surveillance data
monitor HIV trends
analyze
conduct research to inform HIV policies
resource allocation

The ACE Unit is staffed with Public Health Advisors who provide HIV partner and linkage to care services to clients with a new HIV diagnosis or people who are not in care.

The ACE Unit is seeking a Nurse Practitioner, to work with Public Health Advisors in providing HIV-related education and consultation for clients with HIV or exposed to HIV.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

• Provide interpretation of HIV-related results, health consultation and recommendations on care and treatment, and referrals.

• Obtain HIV testing and treatment history as well as medical and sexual history.

• Evaluate and consulting with clients via telemedicine.

• Facilitate HIV testing and treatment uptake among clients.

• Accompany Public Health Advisors to home visits and providing in-peers consultation for clients.

• Work with colleagues to develop manuals, procedures and communication materials to ensure the incorporation of best practices in biomedical approaches to HIV.

• Provide guidance, training, education, and technical assistance to Public Health Advisors.

• Participate in epidemiologic and evaluation studies related to HIV in NYC.

• Monitor and tracking clients' progress and outcomes in program databases.

* Perform other related assignments as needed.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A valid New York State License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; and
2. Completion of a Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program registered or approved by the New York State Education Department, or current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department.
3. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, a certificate to prescribe medication issued by the New York State Education Department and one year of satisfactory experience as a nurse practitioner.
4. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, a certificate to prescribe medication issued by the New York State Education Department and two years of satisfactory experience as a nurse practitioner.

Preferred Skills

**THE New York State License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse LICENSE MUST BE MAINTAINED FOR THE DURATION OF EMPLOYMENT

• Strong experience providing clinical care to marginalized populations.

• Knowledge and experience in providing care for HIV-infected persons preferred.

• Prior experience with prescribing antiretroviral for prevention and/or treatment preferred.

• Amazing experience collaborating with public health professionals preferred.

• Must follow all safety, security, blood-borne pathogen exposure, infection control, and hazardous materials policies and procedures to assure a safe environment for staff and clients. This includes using:

• personal protective wear
• good hand hygiene
• adhering to sharps safety procedures
