Senior Naval Science Instructor

JOB TITLE: Senior Naval Science Instructor
SALARY: According to placement on current salary table and stipend schedule as determined at time of employment, commensurate with education, military experience, and qualifications 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Eleven-month position (Contracted number of days as determined by
the Board of Education annually)
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures for
evaluating licensed staff and by the Chief of Naval Education review and inspection

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  1. Must complete the Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) Certification
Experience:
  1. Retired Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard as a commissioned officer
Certificates/Licenses:
  1. Must meet or be eligible to meet the Colorado Department of Education licensure requirements
  2. Must hold a valid driver’s license

  12. Supervises the NJROTC unit outside of the school setting on assigned extra curricular events
  13. Maintains rapport with and develops collegial relationships with staff and programs throughout the school
  14. Demonstrates willingness to carry out assignments outside of the school setting as necessary
  15. Continual compliance with regulations, rules, or statutes related to Colorado State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Colorado Department of Education, and Colorado State Law

JOB SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  1. Demonstrates organizational skills related to tracking and managing inventory
  2. Demonstrates planning and presentation skills related to providing varied and highly structured instruction to a diverse population of students
  3. Demonstrates the ability to manage small and large groups of students outside of the school setting for extended periods up to several weeks

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Abides by all aspects of the teacher job description, as well as supervision and evaluation process
  2. Plans for and teaches classes as assigned using approved curriculum
  3. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the NJROTC unit
  4. Continually assesses effectiveness with various constituencies through formal and/or informal processes
  5. Demonstrates leadership for the adaptation of the NJROTC program of education approved for the school to meet the particular needs of the community served
  6. Fosters positive interpersonal relations among students, staff, community, and parents
  7. Provides instruction in military drill and ceremony
  8. Delegates authority to the Naval Science Instructor (NSI) to assume responsibility for the NJRTOC program in the his/her absence
  9. Responsible for inventory control of all equipment and uniforms
  10. Responsible for requisition, assignment, and/or collection of uniforms, books, drill rifles, and additional equipment as assigned
  11. Responsible for the evaluation of all equipment and uniforms and arranges for cleaning and preventive maintenance as assigned
  12. Responsible for securing all government property as assigned
  13. Responsible for planning and executing extracurricular activities for the NJROTC unit as assigned
  14. Responsible for the preparation and dissemination of all communication, including but not limited to, letters, memorandums, reports and presentations
  15. Responsible in assessing processes within and progress of NJROTC program objectives
  16. Attends staff development as assigned including Navy sponsored training
  17. Responsible for the preparation of financial vouchers to the Navy for reimbursement of expenditures to the school as assigned
  18. Fulfills all duties assigned by the principal in acting as a chaperon on NJROTC activities outside of the school setting
  19. Serves as an ambassador to the NJROTC program by establishing contact with civic groups, recruiting at feeder schools, and attending appropriate functions as assigned
  20. Responsible for facilitating fund raising activities related to the NJROTC program
  21. Supervises the NSI In the development and implementation of curriculum and student activities
  22. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co- workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
  23. Incorporates legal rights and due process for children with special needs
  24. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
  25. Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; taste and smell; and talk and hear. The employee may also need to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
