The Wild Center AmeriCorps

While based at The Wild Center, AmeriCorps members will collaborate with other Adirondack organizations including local schools, arts organizations, and libraries to provide educational programming. Wild Center Americorps members will be trained to interpret across our 115 acre campus, which includes exhibit halls, trail system, Wild Walk, Raquette River waterfront and more. Americorps members will help with educational programs including showcasing our live Animal Ambassadors for visitors, leading K-12 school programming, supporting our Adirondack Youth Climate Summit, working with school environmental clubs, creating digital content, coordinating school and community family events, and community outreach in support of environmental action projects.

Member Duties : 

  • Facilitate interpretive programs for public visitors: including large groups, technology based Science on a Sphere, and outdoor programs (i.e. hikes, canoeing, insect catching). 
  • Teach school/afterschool programs to students in person and virtually, incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities and utilizing campus resources. 
  • Design, implement, and manage community science programming at the local library and schools. 
  • Help maintain outdoor campus, opening and closing duties, trail sweeps, and gardening tasks. 
  • Assist with planning and coordinating festivals, trail programs, and the Youth Climate Summit.
