Graduate Research Assistant

This is a part-time graduate assistant position. You will be hired as a DoD civilian and eligible to enroll as a graduate student at the Air Force Institute of Technology in a master's (18 months) program. Opportunities then available for post-graduate follow-on positions at your sponsoring organization (AFIT / Nuclear Expertise for Advancing Technologies / Graduate Assistant Opportunity - AFNWC)

You will perform research duties in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management at AFIT

Summary of Duties:

1. Serves as research assistant in the School of Engineering and Management. Conducts research on:

  • Experimental and computational problems in applied physics and nuclear engineering
  • Mechanical, electrical, and computer science problems encountered in space systems, to include design, integration, test, and operation of small satellites and ground station and telescope networks,
  • Acquisition management, cost analysis, engineering management,
  • Operations research, logistics, and supply chain management, OR
  • Computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering--radiation effects on electronics and radiation transport and other high performance computing projects.

2. Assists faculty in planning and accomplishing research projects or studies.

3. Conceives and implements new approaches and devises alternative ways of accomplishing research objectives.

4. Operates experiment and acquires data as required. Provides written documentation in the form of technical report on the data and results obtained.

5. Duties may involve laboratory or field experiments. While on duty in the laboratories, incumbent is responsible for safe operations related to equipment use.

6. With faculty mentorship, may participate in the development and/or delivery of content for AFIT courses consistent with their experience and primary research.
