Community Health Educator (AmeriCorps)

The Community Health Educator will work closely with Tioga County Public Health Department staff to conduct outreach and education about safe drinking water, healthy homes, and other environments. Outreach will be either in-person or via the creation and distribution of materials through social, print, and paid media. The member will coordinate with home and business owners on water testing and preventing the contamination of drinking water supplies. They will also do outreach and direct services with residents about home health assessments and the identification of hazards and threats. Member will also do community education and outreach related to preventing accidental poisonings in young children due to access to chemicals/toxic substances and medications.

Please note, this is a Public Health AmeriCorps position, not a traditional job or internship. Members will serve in-person in Owego, NY for 1200 total hours of service throughout a 10-11 month period at 30-35 hours/week. Members receive a living allowance of $15,000 (divided into biweekly payments throughout the term) and an education award of $4,826.50 (to be used on qualified education expenses).
