Environmental Specialist

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• The Environmental Specialist will oversee the daily environmental operations of the technical and regulatory direction and support,
• Work with Environmental Team to ensure sites are operating in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, maintaining environmental records, developing and implementing environmental operating plans and processes.
• Work closely with mine managers, plant manager, mine planning team, and operations staff to proactively identify and address environmental issues.
• Direct the daily activities of the Environmental Technician(s) and works with staff and contractors to implement environmental best practices. The Environmental Specialist assists in training mine and plant staff, writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), communicating environmental information, and championing best practices to improve unit performance for both the Georgia and Florida operations.
• Maintain and operate the facilities’ industrial wastewater systems.
• Management of site Environmental Technicians.
• Collect samples per the sites’ individual NPDES (IWW) permits and ship to appropriate laboratories for analysis.
• Calibration of equipment
• Ordering and unloading chemicals
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of site processes and how they affect compliance.
• Assists emergency/crisis and spill response activities and notifications.
• Drive and maintain continuous improvements of the site EHS managing processes and procedures. 
• Participate in relevant site incident investigations to address/ determine root causes, key factors, and corrective actions.
• Work to improve systems, processes, individual capability and ownership around environmental compliance.
