Research Mathematical Statistician

USDA Agricultural Research Service is currently recruiting for a Research Mathematical Statistician at https://www.ars.usda.gov/midwest-area/ in Columbia, MO.

Duties:   Responsibilities include perform a full range of develop and implement novel and innovative statistical methodologies to improve the Soil Health Assessment Protocol and Evaluation (SHAPE) tool, assess soil carbon and soil health using statistical and machine learning methodologies including Bayesian models and spatially explicit approaches, incorporate new datasets to improve model spatial coverage and representation, Develop and incorporate novel statistical methodology to handle complex data distributions, etc.

Education:  This position requires a Ph.D in statistics/mathematics or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Preferred interests and experience include hierarchical spatial modeling, machine learning, Bayesian methodology and computation, dimension reduction and analysis of high-dimensional datasets, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience working with large datasets for applied science outcomes is preferred.
