Rotational Engineering Representative

Why is this a great opportunity?

This is a dynamic and evolving opportunity for recent college graduates to learn about supply chain in an industrial construction setting through the 2-year Zachry Rotational Program. 

 

This is a job rotational program that seeks to develop Zachry’s future project leaders. Participants will work on construction projects for on-the-job training in an operations role and participate in training opportunities at corporate offices. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be placed in an operational role at a key job site. 

 

The Rotational Program is looking for individuals who have leadership potential, a can-do attitude, and a desire to learn and grow a strong career with Zachry. Participants should be willing and ready to relocate to a job site for the duration of the program and upon placement in a full-time role.

 

What will you do in this role?

Construction Planning:

  • Participate in construction strategy meetings and provide input into execution plans and area-based sequencing
  • Work closely with Construction Craft Reps from other disciplines to promote discipline alignment including safety and shared resources (equipment, scaffolding, etc.), as well as to ensure that execution sequences are logical and well-coordinated
  • Consideration and preserve the Path of Construction in planning efforts and activities
  • Review engineering design deliverables to ensure the potential for safe and effective scope execution

 

Scheduling:

  • Perform independent analysis of the integrated deliverables and impacts to the remaining activities in the schedule with recommended actions should impacts exist
  • Perform independent analysis of Construction activities to identify any shortage of resource requirements and provide recommendations on actions that might improve the project’s performance
  • Maintain the scheduling system such that all participants in the work activity are integrated so that any impact can be identified
  • Compare existing plans with historical information to provide comparisons and reports on current status of execution as recorded in the schedule

 

Cost:

  • Adhere to cost control standards, deadlines, and procedures, as well as the terms and conditions that govern projects/locations
  • Demonstrate understanding of the estimate and proper utilization of all cost codes by employees at all levels and all documentation
  • Input progress, budget adjustments, and cost projections into the cost system while performing weekly budget validations
  • Understand quantity verification between installed quantity and material purchase quantity

 

Change Management:

  • Understand the contract for the assigned project and Joint Venture, Consortium or Partnership agreements (as applicable)
  • Develop good interpersonal relationships to interface with Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Subcontracts, QC, Enterprise/JV Accounting, Vendors and Client
  • Prepare change orders for change in scope to the Client, extra work documents and back charges for cost recovery as allowed by contractual agreements, and other documents for budget transfer or cost recovery based on contractual JV or partnership agreements
  • Support Operational and Technical craft supervision needs regarding drawings and specification, data analysis, reporting, and engagement with design engineers for extra work issues

Qualifications:

These qualifications are required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Science, Construction Project Management, Business Administration, Agricultural/Environmental Studies, or related field
  • Willing to relocate for the program and future full-time opportunities
  • Available to work 50+ hours per week
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Advanced user of Microsoft applications (such as Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Aligned with the Zachry Group “What’s Most Important” Values

 

These qualifications are a plus:

  • Previous experience in industrial construction

 

What can you expect the physical demands to be?

An employee in this role will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat and software systems. Will be required to view a computer monitor/screen for long periods of time with breaks in-between; May be required to lift, carry, and move objects up to 25 lbs. safely; Capable of operating and functioning in an office-based work environment; Position will include walk downs of industrial facilities requiring mobility (on ground and at heights) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and work boots.

 

What will the work environment be like?

An employee in this role will work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse and in a trailer or building on sites. On work sites noise levels will be moderate to high. Job site will contain: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking, bells whistles and alarms.
