Climate Resilience and Leadership VISTA City of Sedona

This VISTA member will create, expand, and evaluate educational programming options around climate science and impacts, community resilience, and/or environmental services. The educational programming options will be developed to increase access, awareness and to engage with a focus on inclusion of disadvantaged and vulnerable populations within the community, including vulnerable and low-income neighborhoods, and underrepresented communities. The VISTA will research, develop, implement, and evaluate program options and effectiveness towards these goals. The VISTA will seek to improve access to opportunities, lessen barriers to participation, and create leadership roles in STEM and climate programming for underserved students and community members.

Work with sustainability program staff to research, design, and coordinate new climate science and resilience curriculum and expand existing STEM activities that implement strategies to reduce barriers to participation among low-income and vulnerable community members. Develop and implement targeted marketing and outreach materials and measure the effectiveness of current marketing efforts to reach individuals, residents, vulnerable populations, and community businesses about climate science, sustainability, resilience, and resources to reduce impacts from climate change and natural hazards. Build capacity and create volunteer opportunities for parents and community members to participate in climate science, conservation, and resilience activities at or after school, or in community spaces for residents related to developed curriculum. Volunteer opportunities shall focus on recruiting from underrepresented and impoverished groups and community members to be active leaders.
