Research Chemist (Research Associate)
USDA Agricultural Research Service is currently recruiting for a Research Chemist (Research Associate) at Plant Polymer Research : USDA ARS in Peoria, IL.


Duties: 

  • Apply knowledge and skills related to physical and chemical sciences to support the creation of value-added products from plant-derived polymers.
  • Laboratory experiments will be conducted to develop structure-process-property relationships for material compositions fully or partially based on plant-derived polymers, such starch, cellulose, and/or lignin.
  • Material concepts for the utilization of plant-derived polymers for potential application in a variety of end-use markets will be tested at laboratory scale and the data generated used for preparing patent disclosures, and publications.
  • Incumbent will be expected to collaborate with other scientists and technicians to accomplish research tasks and effectively utilize organization resources.


Education: Physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
