QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree.

Certificate by the State of Texas to teach in any subject area.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

A minimum of two years classroom teaching experience

FUNCTION:

The primary purpose of this position is to promote the integration of curriculum, resources, and teaching strategies, and to promote the success of all students and staff by facilitating the access, use and integration of technology, telecommunications, and information systems to enrich the curriculum and enhance learning.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:

Utilizes multiple models of instruction, assessment and effective teaching practices.

Utilizes State TEKS and District Curriculum to design engaging lessons which are challenging, high quality, and appropriate for the level of instruction.

Provides positive/constructive feedback and reinforces student learning.

Is responsible for the use and care of available instructional materials.

Develops those skills necessary for evaluation and diagnosis of student needs.

Ensures the library is an attractive, inviting, and a stimulating atmosphere which promotes learning and supports campus initiatives.

Instructs students in the effective use of print and electronic resources related to curricular and/or independent learning needs to assist students in developing their own research strategies, in compliance with ethical standards.

Collaboratively assists students in developing research strategies and communicating findings in a variety of formats.

Engages, directs, and encourages students, individually and in groups, in extensive problem-driven research with real-world application, in the use of information to solve problems, in the process of building on previous learning, and in the use of all formats of resources to locate, gather, select, synthesize, and evaluate relevant information.

Works collaboratively and individually to provide reading programs for students throughout the year.

In collaboration with classroom teachers, reviews and utilizes student achievement as measured on STAAR and other assessments, so that collaborative lesson plans include development of information literacy skills and are based on TEKS student expectations.

Collaborates with teachers in all subject areas to integrate State-mandated curriculum into the instruction and lessons presented within classrooms, as well as, in the library.

Provides guidance for integration of creative and innovative technology tools and materials.

Assists campus staff in the effective utilization of computers and other technology media.

Supports all District and campus initiatives and instructional programs.

Analyzes data and information from assessments and utilizes it to provide support for instruction.

Promotes collaborative instruction with teachers, as determined by the independent and diverse needs of all learners, and within the context of state curriculum standards.

Works collaboratively with students, teachers, and the community to promote local, state, and national reading initiatives that encourage learners to read, write, view, speak, and listen for understanding and enjoyment.

Collaborates with instructional staff to integrate library resources and services into the reading activities presented in the library, such as storytimes, booktalks, reading promotions, etc.

Collaborates, designs, and provides ongoing instruction for staff and students in the integration of information technology, technology integration and instructional techniques, information literacy, and emphasizing and modeling the ethical use of resources.

Coordinates the campus instructional technology program. Provides program content expertise to promote a technological curriculum experience within the academic program.

Conducts professional development for campus personnel as directed.  Provides training to teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals on integration of technology in the classroom. Develops new approaches in teaching with technology.

Employs existing and emerging technologies to access, evaluate, and disseminate information for integration into instructional programs.

Provides support services for campus personnel on technology and media resources, and acts as liaison between the campus and the Instructional Technology and Curriculum and Instruction departments.

Responsible for determining and participating in professional development goals and activities that are aligned with the needs of the students, prior performance appraisal, as well as, the goals of the campus and district.

Serves as a leader in the coordination of an effective instructional program. Keeps abreast of the most innovative and creative programs and instructional strategies.

Provides a balanced, carefully selected, and systematically organized collection of print and electronic library resources that are sufficient to meet students’ needs in all subject areas, and that are continuously monitored for currency and relevancy.

Maintains current accurate records and accurate inventory of library materials, media, books and equipment.

Promotes a positive learning environment with high expectations and provides motivation for excellence for staff/student performance.

Maintains and cares for all library/media equipment and furniture.

Develops and maintains a campus library web page that serves as a portal for a variety of virtual learning resources unique to the needs of students, families, community partners and community constituents.

Assists campus administration with completion and submission of STaR Chart technology proficiency assessments.

Undertakes/completes assignments in an appropriate and timely manner to achieve organizational goals.

Effectively manages time and materials.

Meets deadlines as requested and submits all required reports and documents by due date.

Manages the school library program budgets to build and maintain a program with resources and services that support a curriculum designed to develop information-literate students who achieve success in the classroom and function effectively in the community.

Works cooperatively with co-workers and other staff members.

Communicates professionally with students, parents, educators, and the community.

Models and promotes the highest standard of conduct, ethics, and integrity in the use of the Web and other print and electronic resources.

Abides by all campus, district, and state policies and procedures and the “Code of Ethics for Educators”.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises Library Media Para when applicable.  Supervises the training, scheduling of, and assignments for parent volunteers and student assistants in the library/media center, under the direction of the campus principal.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to receive information and/or instruction from internal/external customers through spoken expression.

Ability to manipulate tools/equipment/keyboards.

Ability to convey information and/or instruction to internal/external customers through spoken expression.

Ability to perform work while standing and/or walking for extended periods, up to eight (8) hours a day.

Ability to see detailed information, naturally or with correction.

Ability to accurately interpret policy, procedures and data

Ability to coordinate District functions

Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.

Occasional in-district and out-of-district travel

Frequent prolonged and irregular hours
