Senior Mechanical Engineer

Eaton’s AER FMC Fuel Motion Control Systems division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This position is based at our Los Angeles, CA facility.​

 

The LA facility has approximately 280+ employees (and growing) and is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and delivery of Aerospace hydraulic components, systems and services to the global aftermarket and OEM markets.
 

The expected annual salary range for this role is $88837.47 - $130294.96 a year.

This position is for a technical role in the Mechanical Engineering group, supporting new development and existing design of fluid power and motion control systems and components. The Senior Mechanical Engineer works with one or more Integrated Product Teams (IPT) to design, analyze, and implement product designs and design improvements in all phases of a product design lifecycle. The Senior Mechanical Engineer works with limited supervision, has strong technical skills, proactively seeks support from Chief Engineers or Subject Matter Experts (SME), and can adapt and react quickly to internal and external customer demands.

 

The primary responsibility is to provide technical design, analysis, and guidance for new product development, product improvements, test components, rigs, and systems. Has the decision-making authority on behalf of Mechanical Engineering for system, component, and/or test rig design and the responsibilities for guiding and directing applicable IPT technical decisions and accomplishment of objectives.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and participate in efforts to solve problems with product design, inspection, manufacturing, and test encountered by vendors, company operations personnel, and customers.
  • Consult Chief Engineers and Subject Matter Experts for guidance appropriately.
  • Create and/or guides the creation of technical documents, including Engineering drawings (following ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.34 standards), test procedures, test reports, and design review material.
  • Present product design and substantiating data and analysis, design findings and recommendations to customers and management.
  • Support IR&D projects and implementation of new technologies such as Additive Manufacturing.
  • Ensure standardization of products and adherence to engineering processes across multiple projects. Supports continuous improvement by offering input to standard processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with peers and managers to determine key goals, objectives, and corresponding metrics. Review and amend these actions as appropriate. Focus on the timely achievement of these goals and objectives.
  • Interpretation of the engineering documents. Coordinate update of engineering documents.
  • Component design study and improvement for cost reduction and first pass yield.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of one (1) year of design experience OR a Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • This position supports a U.S. government project and requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within 50 miles of the Los Angeles, CA facility will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, or electromechanical products.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Mechanical Engineering design experience utilizing 3D CAD software.
  • Experience in the Aerospace Industry.
  • Experience with CREO.
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink and/or Amesim.
  • Ability to apply Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and perform tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and material selection for high pressure applications.
