• School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential.
• School nurses work directly with students of all ages. They also work with parents, guardians, and caregivers, as well as healthcare providers, therapists, and educational leaders. School nurses frequently collaborate with teachers to help develop individualized education plans for students who require special education or are living with chronic health conditions.
• If you want to work with children or young adults outside of a hospital or medical office setting, school nursing may be a good fit. The working hours are predictable, aligning with the school year calendar and guaranteeing holiday and summer breaks. Nurses typically work a set schedule and work only during school hours, which is often from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. There usually aren't any night, weekend or overtime shifts. As a public school employee, school nurses are eligible for public employee retirement benefits and other employer paid benefits.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
• $53,283.00 to $81,805.00 depending on experience.
• Full medical, dental and vision benefits paid for by THE CCSD.
• Nevada Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) retirement benefits paid for by THE CCSD.
