Teacher, English Learner (ESL)
Teacher, English Learner, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Charlotte, NC. Teach all applicable subjects to elementary school students whose primary language is not English. Utilize knowledge of best instructional practices for identified English Learner (EL) students while working as an instructional leader with specific responsibility for implementing school-wide Language Instruction matching the Educational Plan (LIEP) for all identified ELs. Develop lesson plans and deliver group and individual student instruction in a Co-Teaching Math model. Instruct students individually and in groups, using teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems. Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students. Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems or with special academic interests. Establish clear objectives and adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students’ needs. Assign and grade class work and homework following curriculum guidelines. Communicate with parents and guardians regarding children’s progress. Maintain accurate and complete student records in accordance with law and district policies. Provide leadership in the design, revision, and implementation of EL curriculum necessary to meet Federal, State, and District EL goals. Help staff members understand EL policy and procedures through formal and/or informal training. Obtain and maintain a NC Teaching License as an ESL Teacher. Work 7am -3pm (40+ hours/week). Requires at least a bachelor’s degree in Education, English or Teaching English as a second language or Language Arts or a related field or foreign equivalent.
