The Tax Auditor conducts the least to moderately difficult field audits, and fraud/tax evasion audits. The Tax Auditor audits accounts, attends basic tax law and audit training classes, makes audit appointments, meets with taxpayers and their representatives, explains the audit findings, assists in identifying interrelated fraud schemes, may testify in court to liabilities determined, and prepares appropriate audit reports and written correspondence to taxpayers.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must have either a college degree with a specialization in Accounting or have completed the equivalent of 19 semester units, 16 units of which must include the following courses:  Elementary Accounting, Intermediate or Advanced Accounting, Auditing, Cost Accounting, and 3 semester units of Business Law.

Oakland Tax Auditor Hiring Event

CDTFA is hosting a Tax Auditor Hiring Event on May 1st in our Oakland Field Office. Event participants will have the opportunity to learn about current job openings, receive in-person guidance on the State hiring process, complete the Tax Auditor exam, and apply for the Tax Auditor vacancies. Eligible candidates will be invited to interview onsite and may receive conditional job offers during this event.
