Housing Stability VISTA

Join us in tackling Utah's housing crisis! As the Housing Stability VISTA, you'll spearhead the development of a Renters Housing Stability Roadmap, addressing barriers to stable housing for low-income households statewide.

The mission of Salt Lake City Housing Stability Division is to develop and enhance livable, healthy, and sustainable neighborhoods with a focus on the core role that housing plays in the stability and well-being of City residents. Utah is facing a housing crisis that disproportionately impacts low-income households. Salt Lake City’s recent Thriving in Place Anti-Displacement Strategy found that there are no more affordable neighborhoods in Salt Lake City for low-income households to move to when displaced from their current housing, pressuring these households to relocate to other areas of the state or region.

As a Housing Stability VISTA, you will lead the development of a Renters Housing Stability Roadmap. This roadmap will identify gaps, catalog resources, and establish strategies to overcome challenges for low-income renter households across Utah. You will collaborate with community organizations, conduct outreach, and work towards creating sustainable housing solutions.

This position will work alongside city staff, community leaders, and other community development professionals. Salt Lake City promotes professional development, team learning, and a strong work/life balance, offering a hybrid work schedule.

The ideal candidate would demonstrate the ability to work independently with initiative, self-reliance, and dependability. Candidates should have a passion for building new systems and processes, strong community engagement and rapport-building skills, comfort in leading meetings, experience in developing policy/procedures, collaborating with stakeholders, and strong writing and communication skills.

The position is open until filled. Salt Lake City Housing Stability will begin reviewing applications immediately. This year-long position will start on June 3, 2024.

This position is a full-time, one-year commitment to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA member. While you will not receive a wage or salary, you will receive a bi-weekly living allowance and other benefits (listed above), including the Segal Education Award at the end of your service,
