Special Education (Moderate/Severe / Extensive Support Needs) Teacher for 2024 - 2025 School Year (Interns May Apply)

Salary:

$55,196 - $113,140 (2022-2023 Salary Schedule) + Additional stipend for MA, MS, or M.Ed, Ph.D, Ed.D. Partially paid benefits.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  1. Exercise responsible supervision of assigned students. E

 

  1. Instruct students in Board-approved curriculum such as:  English/Language Arts, English Language Development

(ELD), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, and other assigned subjects. E

 

  1. Motivate and inspire students including:  engaging students in challenging critical and creative thinking activities,

      real-life situations, practical demonstrations, dramatizations, speaking, writing, and other active learning activities. E

 

  1. Establish and maintain an effective learning environment including:  physical classroom environment, socially

appropriate interactions between students, classroom procedures, rules, and standards. E

 

  1. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies such as:  direct instruction, cooperative learning, differentiated instruction, checking for understanding, modeling, and others as appropriate. E

 

  1. Utilize district provided resources including:  approved curriculum materials, books, supplies, equipment, email

accounts, computer programs, and software. E

 

  1. Design and implement lesson plans, instructional objectives, standards-based lessons, and learning activities that

engage and support all students. E

 

  1. Engage in appropriate short and long-term lesson planning, and prepare specific substitute lesson plans as

appropriate. E

 

  1. Prepare records and reports including:  student attendance, progress reports, and other state and district required

reports as assigned. E

 

  1. Assess and evaluate student performance and progress to guide instruction and communicate progress to students,

families, and appropriate staff. E

 

  1. Administer required assessments in accordance with site/district testing procedures and requirements. E

 

  1. Contribute to and participate in required meetings, school, and district events including:  department and grade-level functions, student supervision activities, Student Study Team (SST) meetings, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, and extra duties as assigned. E

 

  1. Support and comply with all district policies and procedures. E

 

  1. Coordinate work of paraprofessionals, teacher assistants, parent helpers, volunteers, and other assigned staff. E

 

  1. Maintain professional competence including:  required teacher credentials, English Language Authorization, and

participate in other opportunities for professional growth. E

 

  1. Work collaboratively with others including:  supervisors, colleagues, professional staff, consultants, contractors,

volunteers, students, parents, guardians, and others that have an interest in the public education of our students. E

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to instruction of assigned students

Academic, social and behavioral characteristics of assigned students

Applicable sections of the California Education Code and other applicable laws

Socio-economic and cultural background differences of the general school population

Technology appropriate for instruction of students and professional communication

California Standards for Teaching Profession

Board adopted curriculum content standards appropriate for assigned teaching area

 

Ability to:

Plan, organize, administer, and coordinate a variety of teaching techniques in a variety of curriculum areas

Direct and evaluate the work of students

Develop and implement goals, objectives and standards

Identify special student needs and differentiate instruction

Motivate students to learn

Analyze current and proposed programs, evaluate alternatives, and adopt effective courses of action

Manage multi-level abilities of the classroom population

Prepare clear and concise student records and written materials

Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Read, write, and speak using grammatically correct English

Utilize instructional technology and operate computers

Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance

Meet schedules and timelines

Work independently with minimal direction

Hear and speak to communicate effectively in person and on the telephone

See to read, prepare documents and reports, and view a computer monitor

Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities, prepare materials, and operate a computer keyboard

Sit or stand for extended periods of time

Bend at the waist to assist students

Reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files

Lift objects up to 25 pounds

EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university, and demonstrated success, either in prior teaching, student teaching, internship, and/or related experiences, in meeting the intellectual, emotional, and physical needs of students is required.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in the assigned subject area(s), CLAD Certification or equivalent, and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) compliance, if applicable.
