SY2024-25 High School Special Education Teacher

What You'll Do

  • Lead academic interventions for designated small groups in push-in and pull-out models
  • Manage a caseload of students and all relevant district, state, and federal paperwork/accounting
  • Embody the characteristics that the school wishes the students to uphold, especially respect, excellence, authenticity, curiosity, hard work, and professionalism
  • Instruct and/or coach during REACH Beyond (June enrichment program for scholars)
  • Serve as an adviser for a group of students and their families, including regular communication, problem solving, and hosting quarterly family conferences
  • Assist in student arrival and departure, transitions between class periods, and lunch periods
  • Document all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and other curricular materials
  • Analyze MAP data in order to achieve student projected growth targets in Mathematics
  • Reinforce school-wide rules and expectations in the classroom
  • Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families and colleagues
  • Assist in the design and implementation of research-based curriculum
  • Create, edit, revise, and share lesson plans for the school to retain as needed
  • Maintain the school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations through continuous reflection
  • Use detailed data analysis of student performance to inform best practices
  • Complete other related duties or tasks as assigned

Compensation & Schedule: 

  • Annual Salary Range: $52,500 - $62,587 (DOE)
  • Signing Bonus: $1,000
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday; Occasional evenings as needed

Annual Calendar and Start Date:

  • 212 working days 
    • Please note this includes 3 days of orientation for new staff. Following years will consist of only 209 work days.

Who You Are

  • Current Colorado teaching credential with special education generalist (5-21) endorsement
  • Able to meet “in-field status” for the position with one of the following:
    • Colorado Department of Education License with endorsement in subject area
    • Degree or 36 credits in subject area
    • PRAXIS – passing the middle school PRAXIS aligned to your content area
  • Able to pass all required background screening

Desired Qualifications:

  • Speak Spanish or have experience working with bilingual students
  •  Experienced urban classroom teacher with demonstrated, quantifiable, and objective student performance gains that surpass state or local averages

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and sitting
  • Must be able to reach, stoop, kneel, push, and pull
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed
  • Must be able to successfully abide by all policies and procedures of Atlas to include, but not limited to, the attendance and time off policies
