Licensed Special Education Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Under the direction of the principal and/or assistant principal, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; Follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP case manager to assigned students.  

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited College or University 
  • Active Colorado Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish desired
  • Minimum one year of teaching experience desired

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education 
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities
  • Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports
  • Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively
  • Ability to guide and train teachers in effective instructional techniques and strategies
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, students, parents

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP
  • Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
  • Employ various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals
  • Develop and implement annual IEP plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals
  • Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student’s IEP
  • Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations
  • Provide direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding the student’s instructional needs
  • Create schedules for small group support, student progress monitoring, and IEP meeting days
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Instructs students using strategies conducive to dual-language immersion, such as sheltered instruction, and cooperative learning. 

COMPENSATION

  • Annual Salary Range $52,000.00 to $64,130.00 depending on experience and education. 
  • Employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Short Term Disability, and Accidental Death and Dismemberment.
  • Accrued Paid Leave at 8 hours per calendar month worked; Total 80 hours.
