Edison Junior High School Principal

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the principal position at Edison Junior High School will embody a blend of strength and sensitivity, committed to fostering a collaborative, transparent, and supportive environment. The new principal will introduce regular recognition of student and staff achievements and increase professional development opportunities in areas like co-teaching and restorative practices. Additionally, their presence in classrooms will be more pronounced to ensure alignment and active support. The ideal candidate will not only participate in but invigorate the school community with innovative ideas, such as reviving the PTA and increasing community involvement, connecting deeply with both staff and students to drive Edison Junior High School towards a bright and inclusive future.


Required Education: A master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education/Accredited Principal preparation program.

Certifications/ Licenses: Possess a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Principal Endorsement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Administrative/Educational:

  • Develops and evaluates educational programs for grades 7-8 to ensure conformance to state and school board standards. Assesses teaching methods.
  • Assesses teaching methods and curriculum and monitors student achievements.
  • Provides strategic direction in the school system.
  • Develops and coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff, review of teachers' activities, and issuance of directives.
  • Directs preparation of class schedules, cumulative records, and attendance reports.
  • Walks about the school building and property to monitor safety and security.
  • Develops and administers educational programs for students with mental or physical disabilities.
  • Plans and develops exit outcomes for graduation.
  • Develops and implements a safe and orderly environment for learning.

Communications/Collaboration:

  • Meets with staff regularly.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, community organizations, and other schools to coordinate educational services.
  • In collaboration with Building Operations, plans and directs building maintenance.
  • Plans and implements a public relations program to inform the public about activities and achievements.
  • Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school.

Fiscal/Budget:

  • Plans and monitors the school budget.
  • Requisitions and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional material as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises 30-35 Instructional Staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees.
  • Uses District employment procedures to recommend staff hiring to the Human Resources office.
  • Plans and directs work.

 

Salary range: $116,049 - $137,624
