Department Information
Within this setting, the mission of the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science program is to provide students with the academic preparation and clinical experiences required for the program graduate to enter the workforce as a professional laboratory scientist. The program's goal is to provide students with high quality academic and professional training using instructional coursework, practice laboratories and clinical experiences in laboratory settings. Candidates for this position will work with other faculty and clinicians in providing appropriate instruction to students in meeting the program¿s goals.

Job Summary
Reporting to the department chair, the visiting instructor in Medical Laboratory Science will be expected to teach the equivalent of 15 semester hours per semester. This is an academic year appointment for the months of August 2024-May 2025. All visiting positions are one-year, non-tenure track appointments. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This role requires good organization, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. The visiting instructor:

Instructs and supports the Medical Laboratory Sciences education program based on the needs of the program.
Manages assigned courses and applies varied instructional and teaching methodologies. Instructional areas may include curriculum specific content associated with clinical chemistry, hematology/hemostasis, immunology, immunohematology/transfusion medicine, microbiology, urine and body fluid analysis, and laboratory operations.
Supports MLS program functions which may include periodic meetings related to programmatic accreditation requirements, advisory boards and organizational structure, and assistance with coordination of clinical practicums.
 

Required Qualifications
Earned masters degree by August 1, 2024

Holds national generalist ASCP or AMT certification as a medical laboratory scientist or medical technologist.

Has a minimum of 1 year of teaching experience.

Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives

Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Preferred Qualifications
Earned masters degree or doctorate degree in medical laboratory science, chemistry, biology, or other biological sciences.

Specialty certification in medical laboratory science in microbiology, immunology, hematology, chemistry, or blood banking

3 or more years teaching experience.

Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
