Primary Assistant Teacher

May River Montessori Primary Assistant Teacher

 

Job Summary:

The Montessori Primary Assistant Teacher assists the lead Montessori teacher in creating and maintaining a nurturing, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate environment for children aged 3 to 6. They work collaboratively with the lead teacher to implement the Montessori philosophy and curriculum, fostering independence, critical thinking, and a love of learning in each child.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Supporting Classroom Activities: Assist the lead teacher in preparing and presenting Montessori materials and activities that cater to the developmental needs and interests of individual children. Engage actively with students during work periods, providing guidance and support as needed. Document the day including work, specials, recess, special guests and activities. 

 

Classroom Management: Help maintain order and cleanliness in the classroom environment, ensuring materials are organized and accessible to children. Support the implementation of classroom rules and procedures, promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere.

 

Observation and Assessment: Collaborate with the lead teacher in observing and assessing the progress of each child, noting their strengths, challenges, and areas for further development. Provide feedback to the lead teacher to inform instructional planning and individualized support.

 

Communication and Collaboration: Establish effective communication with the lead teacher, fellow staff members, and parents/guardians to ensure alignment in supporting the needs of each child. Participate in parent-teacher conferences, meetings, and workshops as required.

 

Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to deepen understanding of Montessori philosophy, curriculum, and teaching practices. Stay updated on best practices in early childhood education and incorporate new insights into classroom activities.

 

Safety and Well-being: Prioritize the safety, health, and well-being of all children in the classroom. Adhere to health and safety protocols, including supervision during indoor and outdoor activities, and respond promptly to any incidents or emergencies.

 

 

- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Montessori Education, or a related field preferred.

- Completion of Montessori Assistant training program or willingness to complete training within a specified timeframe.

- Experience working with young children in a classroom setting, preferably in a Montessori environment.

- Strong understanding of child development principles and the Montessori philosophy.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and engage positively with children and families.

- Patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting the growth and development of young children.

 

 

Full-time M-F 8a – 3p

- Work primarily occurs in a classroom setting, with occasional outdoor activities and field trips.

- May require bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
